Cross-country skiing

No matter if you are completely new to cross-country-skiing or looking to sharpen your existing techniques: Lake Achensee has several ski schools which offer courses for both beginners and advanced skiers. Boasting over 230 kilometres of groomed slopes, the region is one of Tirol’s most popular Nordic skiing destinations. Whether you choose the gentle trails along the snow-covered shores of Lake Achensee or the more demanding trails in the Karwendel valleys: There are classic and skate trails to suit every skill level, backdropped by a stunning mountain and lake scenery.

Winter hiking & snowshoeing

Lake Achensee enjoys a beautiful location in the middle of Tirol's oldest protected area, the Nature Park Karwendel. One of the best ways to connect with the natural surroundings is on ranger-guided tours. The knowledgeable guides share information about the local flora and fauna, and you will learn about snow conditions and search for animal tracks. Of course, you can also discover the landscape surrounding Lake Achensee self-guided. Over 150 kilometres of cleared winter walks take you into the sparkling winter wonderland. If you fancy trudging through deep snow, strap on a pair of snowshoes and explore the wintry scenery.

Skiing at Lake Achensee

Skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts are also well catered for in the Achensee region. The Hochalmlifte Christlum in Achenkirch, the Rofan cable car in Maurach, the Karwendel cable car and the ski lifts Planberg and Wiesenlifte in Pertisau, plus the lifts in Steinberg and Wiesing boast 53 kilometres of slopes on altitudes of up to 1,900 metres. Plenty of wide slopes make the Achensee ski areas very attractive for families with children.

Ski touring at Lake Achensee

If you want to experience the unspoilt beauty of winter, grab a pair of touring skis and climb to the peaks. Ski touring gives you the opportunity to reach spots in high alpine terrain which are usually only accessible in summer. The reward for the strenuous climb: exhilarating descents in pristine deep snow.
