Ski tours in the Rofan & Karwendel
The Rofan and Karwendel mountains offer a multitude of options for ski touring. As an extra perk, skiers can take advantage of the connection to the region’s ski areas where some of the most popular tours start. Pay atttention to avalanche warnings.
Snowshoeing tour
From Steinberg to Achenkirch: Snowshoeing in unspoilt terrain is a wonderful experience for people looking to connect with nature. The Achensee region boasts a huge range of snowshoeing routes, and for your shared experience for two, we recommend a tour starting in Steinberg am Rofan. The quaint village is rightly known as the “most beautiful end of the world”. Enjoy the view of the Guffert, Steinberg’s backyard mountain, before climbing to the Schönjochalm (1,289 m). From there, continue to the Köglalm, at 1,428 metres the highest point of the tour, and soak in gorgeous views of Lake Achensee and the Karwendel mountains. The route meanders downhill to Achenkirch. The two alpine huts are only serviced in summer.
Nordic skiing in the Karwendel valleys
Groomed for classic and skating skiing, the Falzthurn-Gramai cross-country ski trail connects the village of Pertisau with the Nature Park Karwendel. At 14 kilometres long, the scenic loop takes skiers through remote stretches of countryside alongside streams, through forests and across broad plains. This 2-hour tour lets you de-stress in the calm and quiet of unspoilt nature. Looking for a challenge? Join our Achensee cross-country ski challenge.
Winter hike & wildlife watching
From Achenkirch to the Oberautal and Unterautal: The cleared winter walks in the Oberautal and Unterautal valley are insider tips for romantics, especially in the secluded Unterautal. From the car park of the Christlum lifts, follow the trail and after only two kilometres, you have reached a spot where you will most likely see chamois. Romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides
Horse-drawn sleigh rides are a classically romantic way to explore the winter wonderland, for example, the beautiful Karwendel valleys. Hop aboard, cuddle up beneath the warm blankets, and enjoy the breathtaking mountain scenery. On request, a delicious picnic with original Tirolean delicacies can be provided.
Taking a spin on the ice rink
Couples take a spin holding hands: Ice skating is a wonderful winter experience and best enjoyed outdoors in nature beneath a backdrop of the snow-capped mountains.
Tobogganing at Lake Achensee
Limitless winter fun for the young and young at heart: Tobogganing is a fantastic outdoor winter pursuit for all ages, and the Achensee holiday region boasts the requisite natural toboggan runs. It's no wonder that this quintessential winter experience has long become trendy again for adults. Having a chat while walking uphill and whizzing down the hillside with the wind on your face is a great shared experience.
