Tips from the nature park rangers
Listen to the forest, stop in a clearing, and sharpen your senses for all the impressions that you usually fail to notice. Immerse yourself in the outdoors and explore the nature surrounding Lake Achensee consciously. Remain still, listen, and connect with nature – a very rewarding experience!
Nestled between the two mountain ranges Rofan and Karwendel, Lake Achensee is known as an excellent hiking area, featuring rustic mountain huts and trails with beautiful vistas of the impressive peaks and the deep blue “Tirolean Sea”. A variety of marked and well-maintained hiking trails in all difficulty levels offer unique outdoor adventures where everyone will find their favourite summit. To enhance your enjoyment of the great outdoors, our nature park rangers share some tips on wildlife watching.
The landscape is teeming with wildlife, and the slower you move, the more you discover. Often, humans disturb animals when they enter their habitat. But if you choose a comfortable spot and remain still for a while you can make some amazing observations.
Pause to listen, and suddenly you will hear plenty of birds calling. Let your gaze wander over the landscape, trying to spot hidden movements that reveal the whereabouts of animals. It is worth looking closely, listening, smelling, and feeling.
When the environment changes significantly, such as when a forest gives way to a meadow, you are suddenly visible, which can frighten animals. Rangers recommend pausing for a moment before leaving the forest. This will increase your chances of spotting wildlife.
Look up into the treetops, bend down to the ground or lie down and you will see things from a whole new perspective. What's more, we often forget that animals are watching us too; when we're gone, they come out of hiding. Great discoveries are often made by slowly looking back over your shoulder.
